When we showed Sid Tapia the type of surface he was going to be working on, we would have completely understood if he punched us in the face and told us to jog on (for those of you who’ve had the absolute pleasure of meeting Sid, you would know that would never, ever happen). Nonetheless he took the challenge on with usual good humour and set aside designing something worthy of its location.
The wall in question is 44 square meters of aluminium, louvered vents covering a substation at the back of Bondi Beach’s most luxurious new development, PACIFIC. Understandably the cool cats at Pacific thought that this ugly (but wholly necessary) part of the building could do with a bit of a make-up and shake-up! What a wicked idea! Sid was given the responsibility and despite the incredibly difficult surface, he created something PURELY awesome.
If you’re in the area make sure you drop around. Make sure you stand back and take in just how well this piece fits in with the architecture of the building and the feel of Bondi in general.
Sid Tapia, it’s been an honour. Til’ next time!
